They can't even make their voices heard in public, singing or acting. They are guilty of just one thing: to be women. All this takes place in the deafening silence of the European and Italian left, always ready to speak out of turn of patriarchy, but silent – absolutely silent – when radical Islam is involved. Silence also from feminist associations, more committed to crippling the endings of words than to dealing with gender violence and abuse. Too tiring or too uncomfortable to take to heart the complicated affairs of the women of Kabul – the Taliban, the burqa, sharia, beatings, submission. No indignation, no street demonstrations, no sermon on rights and equality violated. Shut up. Europe's failure to take a strong stance on Afghanistan suggests a tolerance towards a type of culture that does not belong to us and that is not compatible with our principles of democracy and freedom. You also demonstrate this by promoting the Islamic headscarf in the official communications of the European Commission. All this with the obvious consequence that the suburbs of the big cities are filling up with veiled women, even with the burqa. Even in schools, girls with headscarves are increasing. For us this oppression for religious reasons is unacceptable and we will continue to denounce it, even at the cost of taking threats, even of death. We're not afraid. I'm not afraid. We are ready to do our part. Europe cannot and must not look the other way.
