DE Speech

Escalations in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean following persistent Turkish provocations (debate)

Watch

Mr President, Those who are honest know that what is happening in the eastern Mediterranean is more than a dispute over gas and maritime borders. It also deals with the reorganization of the entire Middle East and the question of how to position oneself as an EU. Here geopolitical interests, the struggle for resources, but also the various unresolved conflicts such as the Cyprus question, the Kurd…

2025 Commission report on Ukraine (debate)

Watch

Mr President! The time has come again – the annual report on Ukraine. Every year you talk here mainly about arms, armaments and geopolitical interests, but far too rarely do you talk about the people, about a peace perspective. Millions of people have been at war in Ukraine for over four years; workers lose their livelihoods; Social rights and trade unions are under pressure. The Zelenskyy governm…

DE Speech

Urgent measures to strengthen the competitiveness and safeguard quality jobs in the EU’s automotive sector (debate)

Watch

Madam President, Let's be honest: The current crisis is not a crisis of profits, but a crisis of jobs. Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been cut in recent years and hundreds of thousands remain on the strike list. Our colleagues at VW, Mercedes, Bosch, industry in Germany and Europe are currently on strike, fighting for their jobs and better wages, and they deserve our solidarity. The truth is, …

DE Speech

The role of the EU in efforts for peace and stability throughout the Middle East after the announced deal between the US and Iran (debate)

Watch

Madam President, The history of the Middle East is full of imperialist interventions and power games, the result of which was mass murder and suffering of the peoples. So also now: First, Iran is bombed, then a deal is made. First, the region is brought to the brink of a wildfire, and then the arsonists celebrate themselves as firefighters. Destruction, fear and a strengthened regime in Tehran rem…

DE Speech

Situation of women and girls in Afghanistan following the Taliban's adoption of the Criminal Procedure Code for Courts

Watch

Mr President! One is the Taliban and its unacceptable code of criminal procedure, the other is our oh-so-value-oriented EU Commission. It is now inviting the Taliban directly to Brussels. Of course, this does not equate to any recognition of this inhumane, reactionary regime. After all, it's not about diplomacy, it's about deportation. Deportation Minister Dobrindt and his 19 friends, as well as C…

DE Speech

High time to deliver on the Single Market, providing certainty and predictability for EU businesses and quality jobs (continuation of debate)

Watch

Madam President, Every year, the Commission reinvents new names for old proposals: This time the 28th. regime, a new EU-wide parallel legal form for companies to make their lives easier by making it worse for workers. Companies all over the EU should be able to choose whether to comply with national law on company law or to flee into simplified EU law. So the downward spiral is pre-programmed! All…

Political repression and humanitarian situation in Cuba (debate)

Watch

(Start of speech when microphone is switched off) ... If operations are cancelled and people die because even basic medical care is blocked, then this is not a natural disaster. This is the result of the decades-long US blockade. The Trump administration is intensifying the economic war against Cuba with a complete closure of the island. No oil supply, threats against third countries and an open p…

DE Speech

Europe's response to reduced US military deployments in Europe, particularly at its Eastern flank in the light of the latest US decisions (debate)

Watch

Madam President, If the US wants to reduce its troop presence in Europe, the answer should be: Yes, please! Yes, Yankee go home! That should have been said decades ago. But instead of building an independent European security architecture of peace, disarmament and common security with all the states of this continent, they held fast to the NATO military alliance. Even if one was dependent on the U…

Situation in Lebanon: implementation of the ceasefire, support peace efforts and humanitarian access (debate)

Watch

Mr President! March 11 in Beirut: Delal, one of many civilians who can only be accommodated in the tent. She prepares food for her children when the bombs strike. I found bodies on the floor. I saw a man who was still alive but was too badly injured to get up. Then came the second attack and he was killed. Every time I close my eyes, all I see is him crawling in front of me. Delal is one of many v…

DE Speech

Situation of fundamental rights in the European Union in 2024 and 2025 (debate)

Watch

Mr President! Fundamental rights are under pressure worldwide and also in the EU. This is particularly visible in Germany in the context of Palestine solidarity. Critical voices are being restricted and protests are being banned, which is the result of uninhibited geopolitics. Since the war in Ukraine, the EU has been expanding its sanctions toolbox. Journalists have also been affected by this. On…

DE Speech

Interim report on the proposal for the multiannual financial framework for 2028-2034 (debate)

Watch

Mr President! Undemocratic, antisocial and militaristic – this is how the European Commission’s draft budget can be summarised. The Commission creates gigantic, non-transparent pots with less democratic and parliamentary control. Everything, really everything, is subordinated to two goals: competitiveness and militarism. With 500 billion euros for the competition fund, Ursula von der Leyen is putt…

Global Gateway – past impacts and future orientation (debate)

Watch

Madam President, Global Gateway is sold by the EU as a major future project, as an investment in sustainable development, in partnership. But if you take a closer look, you will see that these beautiful words do not stand up to reality. Because Global Gateway is not a real development project! It is above all a geopolitical instrument, a counter-model to the Chinese Silk Road, driven by compet…

DE Speech

Conclusions of the European Council meeting of 19 March 2026 (debate)

Watch

Madam President, When the U.S. and Britain bombed Iraq, this was justified by alleged poison gas weapons. When the US and all European NATO countries bombed Afghanistan, it was allegedly in the name of democracy and women's rights. And Iran's current bombings are justified by the fact that the country has nuclear bombs. Evidently, these are all war lies. Iran has none, Israel has none. The…

Four years of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and European contributions to a just peace and sustained security for Ukraine (debate)

Watch

Madam President, Four years of war, four years of suffering, death, destruction – this attack by Russia in violation of international law must be clearly condemned! It is equally clear: The war must finally end. People die every day. We are exhausted! Of course, we want a negotiated solution, said a teacher from Kyiv, who was connected with me last week on Deutschlandfunk. Yes, colleagues, Ukraini…

Restoring control of migration: returns, visa policy and third-country cooperation (topical debate)

Watch

Mr President, ladies and gentlemen. Once again, we are talking about migration – or rather about foreclosure. And once again, migration is declared the mother of all problems. But the real problem is that more and more people are being forced to flee. By dealing with those seeking protection in a society, one can actually see how much humanity or brutality exists. This brutalization is no longer a…

CFSP and CSDP (Article 36 TEU) (joint debate)

Watch

Mr President! The old world is dying. The new one hasn't been born yet. "It's the time of the monsters," Gramsci wrote 100 years ago. And that's where we stand today. International politics is increasingly dominated by military power. War is no exception. War is calculation. And we see a European Union that is desperately militarised and afraid to get less of the world's cake. This is where the EU…

The urgent need to combat discrimination in the EU through the horizontal anti-discrimination directive (topical debate)

Mr President! I only came to Germany at the age of five as a daughter of political refugees. But my grandfather was already part of the guest worker generation in Germany. He came from Anatolia. He was illiterate and did not understand the language. But he knew how to work. He worked shift by shift in the factory. He brought my grandma and his daughters to Germany. My grandmother was a cleaning la…
