Protecting bees: advancing the EU's New Deal for Pollinators (debate)

Bees are an indispensable element of our ecosystem. Over 75% of the main crops in Europe depend directly on their pollination. Without bees, there is no food, no biodiversity, no sustainable agriculture. And yet the bees disappear. The reasons are clear: pesticides, climate change, disease, habitat loss. We have enough scientific evidence and alarming signals from beekeepers across the Union. We c…

UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons (debate)

Watch

Well, I can give my personal opinion. My political group has done a lot to make people feel better. We are very much focused on the social side of that, housing, higher pensions. That is the focus of everything we do in this Parliament, but also in the Member States. This is a very particular issue. This has never been debated in my country, neither in this political group. It is a very specific n…

UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons (debate)

Watch

Mr President, let us say emphatically in today's debate: Older people are not a social burden, they are the people who have worked, paid taxes, created families and built the countries we live in today. The question is how we repay them. In Bulgaria, as probably in the other Member States, many of them are left alone, without a doctor nearby, without transport, without sufficient funds for medicin…

Recommendation on EU-China political relations (debate)

Watch

Madam President, our relations with China cannot be reduced to a choice between confrontation and complacency. Europe must be firm where our interests and values are at stake – on human rights, fair competition and the protection of our industrial base. But firmness should not mean closing the door to dialogue. China is simply too important a global actor for Europe not to engage. We need an auton…

An EU health workforce crisis plan: sustainability of healthcare systems and employment and working conditions in the healthcare sector (debate)

Watch

Madam President, the medical crisis is not a warning for the future, it is a reality every day for thousands of Europeans who do not have access to a doctor at all, especially in rural, remote and depopulating areas. It is also a reality in the daily lives of many healthcare workers who are forced to work overtime on a systematic basis. For countries like Bulgaria, the problem is even more acute. …

Defence (joint debate)

Watch

Madam President, Commissioner, colleagues, we support the aim of the regulation to speed up permits for defence readiness projects. Europe is investing more in defence, and we need to turn that investment into real capabilities and infrastructure to support them faster. But speed cannot come at the expense of safety. We have worked to make sure that shorter deadlines do not mean weaker environment…

An updated regulatory framework for wool (debate)

Watch

Mr President, today's debate is proof that any topic that affects people matters to the European Parliament. At first glance, the issues raised about the wave may seem purely technical, but for many farmers in Europe, especially in mountainous, semi-mountainous and poorer regions, it is a matter of survival. Sheep farming is not just one of the livestock sectors, it sustains life in rural areas, p…

Mr President, Moldova deserves the strong and consistent support of the European Parliament. Despite the war at its borders, hybrid attacks and constant external pressure, the country shows resilience and commitment to its European path. Moldova’s European perspective must remain a non-partisan national priority, based on democracy, social justice, the rule of law and real benefits for citizens. W…

Mr President, Commissioner, we cannot protect our hospitals, energy grids, public administrations and elections with tools that can disappear because of a decision taken in Washington or somewhere else outside the EU. Of course, we should cooperate with the United States, with companies and with other partners, but cooperation should never mean dependency. I hope the action plan could answer three…

Mr President, Commissioner, colleagues, Europe needs digital sovereignty. We cannot remain dependent on foreign‑owned platforms, cloud services and critical technologies while speaking about strategic autonomy. But sovereignty is not simply about building more data centres or chip factories; true sovereignty means democratic control over our digital infrastructure. It means protecting citizens' da…
