International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (debate)

On the occasion of the anniversary of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, socialists are once again leading the way in supporting effective European action to end gender-based violence, which continues unabated. Women's rights are human rights and there is no place or space for violence against women in Europe. Following the ratification of the Istanbul…

Effective measures to protect and empower children in the digital world (debate)

Watch

Madam President, Paula was 13 when an adult, ten years her senior, contacted her via social media. He gained her trust, stayed with her, abused her, and then uploaded the images to the network. Of these there are many cases. It is a heartbreaking example that reminds us of the importance of regulating, because the problem is not only at what age you enter, but what they are when they enter, who ca…

Joint communication on humanitarian aid (JOIN(2026)0025) (debate)

Watch

Mr President, Commissioner, the reasons for this communication and for making humanitarian aid a priority for the European Union are many. This Communication comes at a particularly difficult time - probably the most difficult time we have experienced in recent times - for humanitarian aid. By 2026, 239 million people will need humanitarian assistance, but at the same time, the global humanitarian…

The threat of war crimes, the escalating violations of international humanitarian law and the human rights situation in El-Obeid, Sudan

Watch

Mr President, Commissioner, I confess to you that I am attending this debate with a dose of frustration and helplessness, because we are bringing the debate on Sudan to this House again and again as Sudan bleeds to death and El Obeid becomes a symbol of a tragedy announced again and again. In just three weeks there have been fifteen drone strikes in the city, summary executions, kidnappings, tortu…

Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda: EU solidarity and preparedness in global health (debate)

Watch

Madam President, the outbreak originating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda is not an African matter. It is a global issue and also a European one. Diseases do not stop at borders. An outbreak can start very far from Europe, but it takes exactly as long to get there as it takes for a person to move. At first, we get news, figures, a few hundred cases and the first deaths - we alre…

Madam President, in recent days we have experienced temperature records throughout Europe. And I'm afraid this is going to be the coolest summer of the next few years. Heat waves have left thousands of victims and multiplied the fires. Thermal stress threatens more than 130 million workers and the burned area already exceeds 130 000 hectares. In our land, in Castellón, in Soneja, but also repetiti…

Situation of women and girls in Afghanistan following the Taliban's adoption of the Criminal Procedure Code for Courts

Watch

Mr President, Commissioner, women and women's rights have always been the cause and also the excuse for political dialogues and military presences in Afghanistan. However, on some occasions we have had the feeling that when the Allies decided to leave Afghanistan and the cameras stopped being there, the weight of the women ceased to be so present. And I say that because today the situation of wome…
