DE Written Statement

Statement by the candidate for President of the Commission (debate)

Nepotism, deindustrialization, inflation and warmongering. This is the result of five years of Ursula von der Leyen at the head of the EU. In these five years Europe has become increasingly poorer, more dangerous and less free. Ursula von der Leyen is responsible for this decline. Because it supports the inflationary policies of the European Central Bank, our money is worth less and less. Because …

2025 Commission report on Serbia (debate)

Watch

Mr President! Yesterday, Lars Klingbeil presented the federal budget for 2027 in Berlin: 200 billion euros of new debt; The German government can only be financed by pump. While Germany is going bankrupt, you want to admit more and more members to the European Union. The CDU's Konrad ‑Adenauer ‑ Foundation estimates that Serbia's accession will cost €3 billion, the entire Western Balkans €7 billio…

EU-Mexico (joint debate)

Watch

Mr President! You talk a lot about the problems in other parts of the world, but you don't like to talk about the problems in Europe. Today we are talking about the partnership with Mexico: we find it fundamentally important – important trading partner. But, unfortunately, the report is not limited to trade policy. The EPP and Socialists are concerned about the state of democracy in Mexico. They u…

Recent violent and fatal attacks in Italy and Denmark and their implications for public security in Europe (debate)

Watch

Mr President! 80 stabbings a day, over 1 000 deaths a year – this is the situation in Germany. Today we are talking about Italy and Denmark. We don't talk about Germany anymore because we have become accustomed to violence. Solingen, Mannheim, Aschaffenburg, police officers, train attendants, children – innocent people everywhere in Germany are victims of senseless violence. But not only knives ar…

Political repression and humanitarian situation in Cuba (debate)

Watch

Madam President, Cuba is now the cheapest puff in the Caribbean. Extreme poverty is forcing young Cubans into prostitution. Sex tourism is organized by Army Chief Raúl Castro, the brother of Fidel Castro. The left sees Cuba as an example. Only four weeks ago, a conference of socialists took place in Barcelona. German Vice-Chancellor Lars Klingbeil was also there. In the final statement, the partic…

Europe's response to reduced US military deployments in Europe, particularly at its Eastern flank in the light of the latest US decisions (debate)

Watch

Madam President, Angela Merkel received an Order of Merit here today. She did almost everything wrong, but in one thing she was right: Friedrich Merz can't do it. Germany does not come out of the crisis: Industry is migrating, unemployment is rising, infrastructure is crumbling, health insurance funds are bankrupt, internal security is lost and the special fund for the German Bundeswehr is ineffec…

Importance of consent-based rape legislation in the EU (debate)

Watch

I'm also sorry about the experience you had. But the numbers of police crime statistics speak against what you are saying here. Eight years ago, we had half the rapes. What has happened in the last eight years? What happened? Why are the numbers exploding? Because we have this immigration, the uncontrolled immigration of people from other cultures.…

Importance of consent-based rape legislation in the EU (debate)

Watch

You know, Mrs García Hermida-van der Walle, I don't know if you have children. I am the father of two daughters, and my eldest daughter has been the victim of sexual violence. And I don't wish anyone here had to have this conversation. And that's why I do politics. Because this phenomenon did not exist a few years ago – when I was a child, it did not exist yet. And if you're in Berlin listening to…

Importance of consent-based rape legislation in the EU (debate)

Watch

Madam President, 14,000 rapes last year – Syrians and Afghans are ten times more likely to be suspected than Germans. The dark figure is even higher: According to police, up to 200,000 rapes per year. Greens and Social Democrats want to solve the problem now. After the ‘arm length distance’, the next ingenious idea now comes: ‘Yes only means yes’. But there are two problems. Firstly: Most rapists …

Global Gateway – past impacts and future orientation (debate)

Madam President, Over $200 billion has been invested by the Chinese all over the world over the past year. But while Beijing is building roads, railways or pipelines, Brussels is wasting our money on projects like gender transformation in Tanzania, forest partnerships with Mongolia, renewabl…

Mr President! For years we have supported Ukraine with a lot of money. Viktor Orbán is also involved in the aid, with half of Ukraine's electricity imports coming from Hungary. Zelensky seems to take this for granted. Instead of being grateful, he turns off the Hungarians' oil and even threatens the Hungarian prime minister with murder. The European Union was originally founded as a project to ens…

Four years of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and European contributions to a just peace and sustained security for Ukraine (debate)

Watch

Madam President, Four years ago, Russia invaded Ukraine. We have always condemned this attack: Russia has no right to violate Ukraine's national sovereignty, and Ukrainians have every right to defend their homeland. Europe supports Kyiv with a lot of money: Nearly $200 billion in four years. Most of the money comes from Germany, but we are pretty much alone. The Americans have stopped all payments…

Thank you, Mr Lopatka, for allowing the question. I am surprised that you are talking about sovereignty from the EPP.
