Defence (joint debate)

Watch

Mr President, thanks a lot for a very good debate. It went perhaps even broader than just quite technical issues related with the omnibus, but that really clearly shows how important defence is and how important it is for all of us to understand what is at stake. So thanks a lot to those who were working in negotiations and who were supporting now the omnibus. We shall continue in the same directi…

Watch

Madam President, thanks a lot for a very good debate and thanks a lot, really, for the job which was done, as I said at the beginning, for the provisional agreement on the Defence Readiness Omnibus. I definitely agree with those who are saying that speed in the development of our defence readiness is a crucial matter. That is why, in my view, this omnibus, which we did now, is just the beginning. …

Madam President, honourable Members, for our defence readiness, we often need more: more money, more production, more weapons, more equipment. But sometimes we need less: less complication, less restrictions, less red tape. When it comes to regulating the defence industry, as the saying goes: less is more. And I know you agree. So I thank you for your provisional agreement with the Council on the …

The need to combat antisemitism and protect Jewish life in Europe, following the recent attacks against the Jewish community in the Netherlands and Belgium (debate)

Madam President, honourable Members, let us leave this debate not only with words of solidarity, but with a renewed determination to turn every commitment into tangible protection for Jewish communities across our Union. The constant pressure of hostility and harassment on Jewish communities in Europe has led to a growing trend of self-invisibilisation: Jews withdrawing from public life and concea…

Madam President, honourable Members, just a few hours ago, two men were stabbed and seriously injured in London only because they are Jews. They have our deepest sympathies. There can be no place for antisemitic violence in our society. So let me thank the Parliament for organising this important debate. Antisemitic attacks and violence have risen manifold since the Hamas terrorist attack on 7 Oct…
