Protecting EU citizens’ data from hybrid threats: the Lithuanian case (topical debate)
Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, In the face of this debate, allow me to quote Donald Trump, the American president, who once said: The biggest threat to our democracy does not come from Russia or China; The biggest threat comes from within. (an incomprehensible interlocutory call from another Member of Parliament) That's right, Mr. Sieper. And in this case, the biggest threat to data security and to the freedom of expression of European citizens is the European Commission and, above all, the Digital Services Act. Here, under the pretext of child protection, attempts are being made to suppress any criticism of the system and to establish total control. A similar system has already been introduced in Australia under the same pretext, and all the data show that it does not work; over 60% of minors still have access to social media. So here it is in the fullest knowledge about something else: Attempts are being made to introduce an identity card requirement. This is a social control like in China, this is the end of freedom of expression in the EU.
