Electrification Action Plan (debate)
Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, electrification is the key to our energy sovereignty. But we are not going fast enough, especially on demand. In early 2026, Europe experienced more than 1,200 hours of negative prices. For more than 1,200 hours, we produced decarbonized electricity without being able to sell it due to a lack of customers. The real construction site, then, is demand. That is why the future electrification plan must be ambitious and concrete. This requires three priorities. Set an electrification goal. Develop demand flexibility and storage. And finally, put an end to the mechanism that still subsidizes production when prices turn negative. Finally, we must have the courage to reform. I am thinking of the energy taxation directive, which has been blocked for 20 years. Decarbonised electricity can no longer be taxed more than fossil fuels. Electrification is not an option. This is a condition for our competitiveness and energy independence.
