Electrification Action Plan (debate)
Madam President, it was time. It was time for our Parliament to take up electrification, because our dependence on fossil fuels is deadly. Let's be clear: Every boiler replaced, every plant decarbonized, is sovereignty regained. It is also a stop to the 60 billion euros of fossil fuel imports that impoverish France every year, like the entire European Union. So electrifying, yes, but with what political courage? Wanting a massive transition to electricity while remaining subject to the laws of the market is an economic and ecological nonsense. How can we defend purchasing power and the climate if our decarbonized electricity is still dependent on international gas price speculation? Let's start from a simple observation. Liberalisation of the energy sector is a failure. She blew up prices. It has slowed the creation of production capacity and is now holding back construction sites of the century, while 80 million kilometres of power lines must be deployed worldwide for connection needs. Independence therefore requires getting out of fossil fuels, yes, but also massive investments and a return to public control of energy. In conclusion, electrification is our greatest strength, but it requires a prerequisite: Take back your hand and get out of the market logics.
