Recommendation on promoting transnational governance on water in the interests of conflict prevention and peace (A10-0150/2026 - Leoluca Orlando) (vote)
(IT) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, Parliament is called upon to express an unprecedented – and for the first time – and current – position on water governance, with a view to ensuring peace. rule of law e human rights. As many as 150 supra-state water basins in the world are an opportunity for collaboration but also for conflicts in reference to water defined as a "public common good". Wars that use water as weapons. Migrations that find strong motivation in the lack of water. Speculations that mortify the right to water and constitute a pretext for violation of the rule of law. These are all subjects dealt with in a compromise text for which I feel it is my duty to express my appreciation to the shadow of the different groups and staff of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the same rapporteur. The hope is the approval of a determination that constitutes confirmation of the importance of water and its governance for a peaceful coexistence between peoples.
