Affordable Housing Act (debate)
Maybe I shouldn't answer a question with another question. But, in your opinion, is an Austrian more important than an Italian? Is it more important than a Romanian? Is it more important than another person? Why not give the same rights to people across Europe? Why not have legislation that puts rules that mark clear rights? Because every person on this continent, in this Union, has the right to l…

Affordable Housing Act (debate)
(IT) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, 400 people lost their homes in Rome in the experience of Spin Time, because the real estate fund that owns the property wanted it back. The city tried to buy it, but nothing. Meanwhile, these people have been relocated and waiting lists for social housing have stalled. And this is why? Because we can't touch a real estate fund! Commissioner, can we say that…

State of the Union (debate)
Mr. Mureşan, you're talking about taxing Big TechThe People's Party? You keep talking about digital and then you don't invest in it. You keep talking about the climate and the deaths this summer, but then you're destroying the transition here. You talk about international law and then you invited the Taliban and you don't do anything about Gaza. talk about European defence and then put 800 billion…

The EU’s role in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the accountability of Israel under international law (topical debate)
Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, do you want to know how we can oppose and guarantee the reconstruction of Gaza, peace? We must oppose the occupation. We must oppose genocide. We have to take responsibility before we talk about reconstruction. The United Nations has told us: Israel deliberately killed children, Israel is committing genocide. Where are these criminals now? I'm in Gaza. They deci…

Urgent measures to strengthen the competitiveness and safeguard quality jobs in the EU’s automotive sector (debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, Fiat, FCA, lost almost 50 000 workers between 2000 and 2020, well before the Green Deal. Thus, the absence of European industrial policies was already a problem. And what did we do? Nothing. Did our competitors invest in new technologies? We gave dividends to shareholders instead of reinvesting them. Did wages lose purchasing power? More and more luxury cars …

Electrification Action Plan (debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, $3,000 per second: That's what fossil fuel companies earn. That's what the seven largest fossil companies in the world have earned. $3,000 per second: Let us remember this figure, when they tell us that electrifying is expensive, when they tell us that electrifying is not convenient. While our people, our population pay stellar bills, they earn $3,000 per sec…

Advancing towards a care society: addressing the gender care gap (debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, Daniela is an employee, she worked eight hours a day. Now she had to ask for a part‑time to take care of her children and her sick father. He now works 18 hours a day, of which more than ten are unpaid. Maria, on the other hand, is a migrant woman, works 24 hours a day, earns 950 euros a month, has a day off, lives in the workplace, is always available, can n…

High time to deliver on the Single Market, providing certainty and predictability for EU businesses and quality jobs (continuation of debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, the single market: How many times do we repeat this word in our speeches? The single market as a major achievement of the Union. But what is a single market without a single set of rights, without fiscal alignments, without a single energy price, without equal protections for workers? A strong single market is not built on precariousness or social dumping, it…

EU governance under pressure – institutional responses to global challenges (debate)
Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, here we are in Strasbourg, where we must come every month to spend hundreds of millions of public money, because, for purely national selfishness, we do not have a single seat. But where does a Europe like this think it's going? The Europe of 27 governments that continue to block the decisions that the people demand, from social rights to civil liberties, from f…

Importance of consent-based rape legislation in the EU (debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, in France an eleven-year-old girl was abused by an adult man; Justice hesitates to recognize rape because there is no evidence of coercion. In Spain five men repeatedly raped a woman and by two degrees of judgment there was no rape because there was no explicit resistance. In Italy, the Court of Cassation has annulled a rape sentence because jeans that are to…

Energy security, independence and supply in the geopolitical context - ensuring market stability and affordable energy for industry and citizens (debate)
Clearly we could take a much stronger geopolitical stance if we were not completely dependent on fossil fuels. Europe's role as a peacemaker, as a defender of international law, is not possible if all our energy comes from authoritarian regimes and is dependent on Putin, Trump, Iran and the Arab states and several authoritarian regimes. Europe's autonomy also means building peace, en…

Energy security, independence and supply in the geopolitical context - ensuring market stability and affordable energy for industry and citizens (debate)
Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, our continent has neither gas nor oil. And this is not ideology, it is geology. Energy prices are skyrocketing because compulsory import is subject to all external shocks and prices are rising. And what is the right-wing solution? We buy more gas and oil and stop the transition. Do you know why we continue to use fossils as the only solution? Because …

Presentation of the Energy Package (debate)
Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, Iran, Venezuela, Ukraine, but also Afghanistan, Iraq, what do they have in common? Oil and gas. These are the fossil fuel supply routes. We can never build peace if we depend on the fossils that drive wars, and as long as our energy system depends on importing gas and oil, our bills will be affected by global crises and market instability. In ten days the price …

Presentation of the Energy Package (debate)
Mr Vivaldini, you speak of ideology: He says we don't have to make ideological choices. And yet, it seems to me that the price of gas has increased by 50% in the last ten days. Our dependence on fossil fuels is making life completely impossible for us and increasing our bills. Yet it was precisely the Italian government, whose Premier is from his party, that decided that Italy, instead of investin…

Housing crisis in the European Union with the aim of proposing solutions for decent, sustainable and affordable housing (debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, this report is an insult to the citizens of Europe, emptied of all ambition, a gift to builders and speculators thanks to the usual tricks of the right. Instead of reversing course, it promotes the same measures that led to the housing crisis: ignores the structural causes of the crisis, such as financial speculation, lack of social housing, tourism, short-te…

European Council meeting (joint debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, unity and consistency are the only way to defend European sovereignty and autonomy. Meanwhile, he winks at Putin and backs himself in imperialist aims, in defiance of inte…

European Council meeting (joint debate)
Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, Mr Borchia, you are talking about Mercosur when Mercosur came to the Council thanks to Italy's vote. Mr Borchia, is the Lega not the government of Italy that voted for Mercosur and allowed Mercosur to pass by harming farmers? How do you come here to criticise Parliament, an eventual vote of Parliament, when it is your government, where your party sits and your l…
