State of the Union (debate)

The European Union is in an internal context full of major political and social challenges, and in an international context challenging giants by wars and crises in our environment. The crossroads for the President of the Commission is either to continue building the Union in coordination with the pro-European forces that supported her candidacy, or to be carried away by those who want to dismantl…

Escalation in the Middle East (debate)

Watch

Mr President, the Middle East is disintegrating while the EU's role is that of a bystander. Ceasefires are not working, and there are new fronts and more violence. Today the Houthis – and it has been said today, we're very happy to know that the Council is already speaking about this – are advancing now and they are very close to controlling the Bab al Mandab. The situation is extremely serious, a…

The EU’s role in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the accountability of Israel under international law (topical debate)

Watch

Mr President, Commissioner, once again, this Parliament is debating on Gaza while the humanitarian catastrophe continues to deepen. Despite the so-called peace agreement, civilians continue to suffer, humanitarian access remains severely restricted and there is still no credible political horizon. At the same time, the West Bank faces unprecedented settler violence and de facto annexation. Lebanon…

Mr President, Commissioner, this Parliament is about to give its consent to an agreement that has taken almost ten years to negotiate. An agreement that comes at a time when global trade can no longer be understood solely in economic terms. Today, the European Union is more aware than ever that trade policy is a fundamental pillar of our economic security and strategic autonomy. We are aware of th…

The role of the EU in efforts for peace and stability throughout the Middle East after the announced deal between the US and Iran (debate)

Watch

Madam President, I stand here today with a deep sense of sadness – sadness of having to gather to celebrate the end of a world that should have never begun. The unilateral and illegal attacks carried out by the United States and Israel that, by the way, you never condemn, have not brought democracy to Iran, and at the contrary, unfortunately, are reinforcing the regime of the ayatollahs. This war …

My other question was about the Gaza Facility and why until now it seems that UNRWA has not yet received EU funding. If this is my last turn, I would like to say that, because accountability is very important, this is why we need you to work to activate the blocking statute. It's very important because our ICC judges are the ones who are fighting against the impunity of the Israeli Government and …

Question Time with the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy - EU’s strategy to address the current crises in the Middle East

Watch

Dear Ms Kallas, since you took office as High Representative, the Middle East has undergone a complete transformation: the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, the genocide in Gaza, alongside the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, the violent settlers – all of this contradicting our two-state position, violence in Lebanon between Hezbollah that is destroying the country, and also Israel,…

Situation in Lebanon: implementation of the ceasefire, support peace efforts and humanitarian access (debate)

Watch

Mr President, Commissioner, I think what Lebanon really needs is less EPP French colonialism over Lebanon. This is what Lebanon need less, certainly after this shameful intervention here. 2 300 Lebanese killed, 1.2 million displaced and stripped of the homes they built with their hard work, 55 villages occupied – one third of a sovereign country's territory. All of this is the work of a supremacis…

We rejected Iran's attacks on the GCC countries. Ursula von …

Mr President, Commissioner, five months ago, we led a mission, the first one to Syria to witness the country's transition. We spoke with organisations, communities, civilians. The images from January are terrifying. Cruelt…

Mr President, three weeks ago, the Iranian people rose up against inequality, poverty, isolation and injustice with one single demand: their freedom. Today, Europe must look at Iran with empathy and humanity. We see merchants, students and women in the streets. The same women who show that dignity cannot be imprisoned. Young people who did not choose this regime, but who still have the right to ch…
