Renewing the EU-Africa Partnership: building common priorities ahead of the Angola Summit (debate)
Mr President, 2019: Abidjan; 2022: Brussels; 2025: Angola. At each summit, the European Union gives us a new agreement to renew its relationship with the African continent. Democratic Republic of the Congo-Rwanda peace deal agreement (debate)
Mr President, yes, the peace agreement negotiated in Washington between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the aegis of the United States is tragic in more ways than one. First, because he is twisting his arm in Congo by committing it to endorsing the suffering of its people and supporting the Rwandan dictator Kagame. By relying on abusive regulations, the European Union has simply destroyed our industry, our agriculture, our fisheries and shifted pollution elsewhere. Because, finally, who wanted to use these countries as open dumps? The European Union. Between 2004 and 2024, exports of waste from the Union to third countries increased by 72 %. Waste exports! So some here can split big statements about the climate emergency, biodiversity, ecological disaster, but the reality is there. It's you. It is you, blissful Europeanists, who have promoted this ultraliberal model that puts us in this calamitous situation. When the wise man points to the moon, the fool looks at the finger. A company is much more than a capital or a financial return. They are employees, customers and territories, which it helps to make richer and more alive. This is why it is necessary to balance the financial rating with a territorial rating. Finance must regain its rightful role in our economy, i.e. raising capital to support long-term projects and enable us to recover our economic sovereignty. In a word, it must be at the service of nations and peoples. If we were to have one goal, one goal, one course, it would be to empower nations to make the investments needed to weigh in on the world of tomorrow by funding our ex-cel-len-ce. Because above-ground finance, which breaks the links between the company and its stakeholders, is the worst threat to prosperity. The cultivation of algae, for example, offers us great prospects that are still unknown, especially in the development of environmentally friendly fuels and fertilizers, and also in their ability to absorb our CO2 emissions. We account for less than 1% of global production. The way forward is to adopt an action plan from algae farming to industrial fishing using a transversal and comprehensive approach to correct the obstacles to our small-scale fisheries, without clarity and indiscriminateness on the part of the Commission, and to make a real contribution to the restoration of our ecosystems, but also to the sustainability of our small-scale fisheries.
