Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, On 5 March – four days ago – Volodymyr Zelenskyy threatened Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in an incredible way. It was a threat to life and limb, a threat of violence against a head of state of the European Union. Let me remind you of what Zelenskyy said, literally: "Otherwise, we will give the address of this person to our armed forces, our guys. Let them call him and speak with him in their own language.’ What does that mean? That here the armed units of Ukraine should receive the address of Viktor Orbán, to talk to Viktor Orbán afterwards in their own way with weapons. And even the EU ‑ Commission, which is usually very, very Zelenskyy ‑-friendly, has said: You can't do that anymore! I can and should appeal to you: Please allow a debate here! Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased: Finally, it is not a rainbow issue that is being debated here, at last it is not a matter of spending valuable parliamentary time listening to your Orbán and Trump bashing, but finally what is really bringing Europe into problems here, namely the price situation, the cost of living, and it is not possible to solve this problem without pinpointing the causality in the milestones of your policy. It started with the coronavirus era, with a lockdown wave, with vaccine procurements that can all be dumped on the garbage dump today; It has continued with Ukraine, with Putin's invasion, where the day after the Commission President flew to the US and agreed to provide a gigantic amount of much, much more expensive US LNG gas for Europe. They put their heads in the sand when Nord Stream 2 was blown up by a Ukrainian special commando. They are pushing ahead with the Green Deal, which is putting the European automotive industry in a death zone. They are the ones tormenting Europe with regulations and numbers. This one-in-one-out rule, which normally applies to the Commission, is not adhered to. Finally, a one-in-ten-out principle would have to apply in order to free European companies from this burden of bureaucracy. I believe that Europe can only go into a good future if you finally refrain from this policy of bureaucratization, of ideologizing, but turn again to the real problems of the people.
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, I don't want to spare you some irony. For all the geopolitical muscle games you are playing here, I would like to remind you that for many, many years this European Union has not even been able to provide hot water here in Parliament in Strasbourg or in Parliament in Brussels. And I continue with the irony: What do you do with your muscle games? Are you sitting down – or are you instructing any soldiers in electricity-powered tanks, with a rainbow flag, with an EU flag, to declare war on Putin and Trump alike? It all goes into the ridiculous. From my point of view, you should rather orient yourself to what there are concrete problems. For example, which of you was here in front of Parliament yesterday when hundreds or thousands of farmers protested? They were people who didn't want anything bad. They were people who weren't against anything. These were people who only asked to continue to allow their own existence in the face of this Mercosur agreement, which is likely to bring the death blow to domestic and European agriculture. This is the wrong policy. While Mercosur is not yet in force, it is already heading towards India. This is deceit for deceit the death of the European economy and also agriculture. And also the Green Deal, which entails the death of the European automotive industry, is something that inwardly weakens the power of Europe more and more. But they still exist, the sensible voices in Europe. This EU, or European Community before it, was created to generate peace, freedom and prosperity, not to generate itself as a kind of military alliance. In this context, I see it more than positive that today a voice from Slovakia comes from Prime Minister Fico, who says he does not want to meet NATO's current billion-dollar demands and has invested this money more in his hospitals and streets. Just as Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán says he wants to act as a peace negotiator in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and not participate in more and more rearmament and more and more sanctions and the wrong path. I wonder what the EU has to do at a joint summit with NATO. NATO has made a more than gloomy picture here in Europe. I only remember the attack on the Serbs about 25 years ago. We had the situation in 2022 that we almost had peace and the British ultimately sabotaged that peace. We have Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is calling for lasting peace here. We have the recently deceased Pope, who has spoken out in favour of finally bringing about peace. Please recognize the signs of the times. Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, For the course of the European Union, the saying applies in a modified form: Every time you think you can't do it anymore, the next madness comes along. And in concrete terms, it is now the plan to earmark an enormous sum of 800 billion for upgrading this continent. And if you convert this sum to the number of inhabitants of Europe, you come per capita - as it is so nicely said, from baby to old man - to a sum of around 1 800 euros. If you count on the active generation, it will probably cost every European who contributes taxes today an additional 4,000 to 5,000 euros per year. I say: That's the wrong way. Europe needs this money for new and good jobs. Europe needs this money for social activities, for hospitals, for education, for schools, but not to upgrade. And the proposal that is now coming from France, namely to sow the entire continent with nuclear weapons, also comes into the same horn. That's the wrong way. We are currently negotiating with the Trump administration in Saudi Arabia – and now you can think of Trump whatever you want, but it is at least an attempt to bring about peace here at the table. And if I say now that we are reducing the Commission, I am not doing so in a populist way, but I would like to point out that with the Treaty of Lisbon you have here an Actual situation It should have 18 Commissioners and not 27 Commissioners. And only an exceptional decision makes it possible for this completely bloated commission with completely bloated regulations to annoy and torment the people of Europe accordingly and make it difficult for them to work.
