Importance of consent-based rape legislation in the EU (debate)
We are committed to effectively protecting victims and promoting prevention measures, but these efforts can only be effective if the necessary measures are tailored to the socio-legal specificities of each Member State at national level. A unified, centralised approach ignores national, cultural and legal differences that are key to genuine assistance. We are concerned that the left is trying to include ideological elements in the resolution on several points, in particular gender ideology, and instead of strengthening support for victims, it would create a legal uncertainty. This is not in the interest of the victims. The issue of increasing rape in the context of mass illegal migration is a defining element of the decision, while it is not openly stated. Hungary must maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal migration, public safety, social standards and the protection of women. Although there were a number of positive elements in the decision, I was unable to support it with my vote because of these aspects. The Patriots for Europe Group attaches importance to the protection of victims, which is why we tabled an alternative motion for a resolution that took a balanced position while effectively protecting victims and respecting the competences of the Member States. I voted in favour of the Patriot alternative resolution.
