Political repression and humanitarian situation in Cuba (debate)
Madam President, Mrs Kallas, it is really desperate: 67 years of dictatorship, a murderous communist regime, which has imprisoned its children, which has made the world's largest prison for more than six decades. And here we are talking about reforms, not intervening. Do you know what's going on? This dictatorship is now closer than ever to collapse, because of its brutal and abysmal general failure, which generates nothing but misery, fear, hunger and death, and also thanks to the action of American politics. Yes, José Daniel Ferrer has been here – he has been quoted now – and Zoé Valdés has been here. And what did the two of you ask for? American intervention to end the miserable dictatorship of the Castros and the communist mafia. That's what you're asking for. And that is what anyone who has common sense and has a little compassion and piety for the Cuban people, tortured for 67 years, is asking for. And what does the European Union do? It has maintained for a decade a shameful Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement with the dictatorship, which the dictatorship does not comply with at any point. This agreement has provided the dictatorship with supposed legitimacy and millions of euros from the European taxpayer. The High Representative tells me that she is going to civil society, that she is not going to dictatorship. But what do you really know about Cuba to think that some of those money actually goes to civil society, but goes to the party organizations that terrorize the people and goes to the mafia groups at the top of the dictatorship? It has also provided precious oxygen to a regime in agony to continue spreading its tentacles of violence, crime and subversion throughout Ibero-America, pouring its poison everywhere there. That is why we must put an end to this Agreement and help bring down the dictatorship once and for all. Everything else is complicity with crime.
