Reviewing the ETS system to support European competitiveness (topical debate)
Madam President, pay for producing, pay for investing, pay for creating jobs, pay for creating wealth... European companies are plundered by climate fanaticism. Emissions trading – the flagship of the European Green Deal – has become a condemnation of our economy. Because of you, who voted in favour and who continue to vote in favour, our industry is forced to pay for CO.2 which it produces in the production process. You knew what was going to happen, but you didn't care about the consequences. They decided to deindustrialize Europe and put thousands of workers out of work. Automobile factories are closing, there are mass layoffs, relocation of steel and aluminum, the alloys or ceramics industry in Castellón are on their way to disappearing, the port of Algeciras is losing traffic to that of Tangier and energy bills are devouring family economies. Meanwhile, China and India produce more than ever. They grow up and we don't. Of course the whole system has to be reviewed, but to be repealed, with all its European Green Deal. If we want to be competitive, we cannot force our companies and workers to compete with their hands tied behind their backs.
