Sources
Vote data comes from the European Parliament's Open Data API and is licensed under CC BY 4.0. Vote titles come from the Parliament's Legislative Observatory (OEIL).
For votes from the 6th to 8th parliamentary terms (2004–2019), data is sourced from VoteWatch Europe (Simon Hix, Doru Frantescu and Sara Hagemann, 2022), licensed under CC BY 4.0, adapted by check-some-votes.eu (re-keyed, group names mapped, outcome derived).
Updates
The site checks the European Parliament's Open Data API for newly published votes every 10 minutes. Titles from the Legislative Observatory and topic tags are completed about once an hour. New votes therefore appear shortly after the Parliament publishes them.
Did not vote
The European Parliament publishes no absences. The figure shown as “did not vote” is computed here: the MEPs with an active mandate on the day of the vote, minus those with a recorded vote (for, against or abstention). Mandate periods are taken from the Parliament; on a handover day a seat can be counted twice. Votes without any recorded individual votes show no derived figure.
Split delegations
A national delegation consists of all members who, in a single vote, sit in the same political group, the same country and the same national party. A delegation counts as split when it has at least two recorded votes and its strongest position is below 80% of the votes cast – its own majority is then not clear.
Absences and intended but unrecorded votes do not count. Group and national party are the members' current affiliations; a change since the vote is not traced back.
Coverage
The site covers roll-call votes from 1 July 2024 (the European Parliament’s 10th term).
AI use
Explanations of individual votes are automatically generated summaries. They are produced with the Mistral service and stored per document and language. On the vote page they are marked as AI-generated. Where there is no source text, no summary is stored.
Vote corrections
For votes, the European Parliament publishes intended positions (corrections) alongside the positions cast. These entries are stored per vote separately from the votes cast. When a correction differs, the selected member's card shows the intended position as the main entry and the position cast beneath it; a note explains that the correction does not change the result as established. In the CSV export it appears in the intended_position column.
Group changes
Group membership is stored as a period with a start and an end; a current membership has no end. On a vote page, each member is attributed to the group they belonged to on the day of the vote. A later change does not alter that attribution. The group overview, by contrast, shows the members' current group.
