Madam President, it was hard to listen to the extreme right and to the amount of hypocrisy in this room. Now they push you down the stairs and they ask you: where are you hurrying to? Because they said that renewables are more expensive. Are they? Have you talked to anyone trying to charge electricity or somebody putting gas and fuel in their car recently? Have you tried talking to somebody who has installed solar panels so that they can have free energy, and then they are blocked by the right who stops energy communities? We have put so much money into the renovation wave. Some countries have taken it all, Italy and others. Are you better off sharing the energy price with the environment just because your house is badly insulated, and because you don't want to take money from the EU to renovate? People do not love gas; they do not love coal. They love comfort, they love prices, they love convenience and they love security. That's what they love. So let us give them something to live in the future, not something ideological. Stop the ideology. Look reality in the face.

Madam President, Commissioner Mînzatu, I will not say, like a Romanian politician, who said: “what about us, the poor, what about us?”, because it would be hypocritical. Because poverty, as it is today, no longer looks as we know it. Poverty today has diplomas, it has a job, it has a lot of education and a lot of investment and we fail to offer the chance of a decent income. An entire generation works harder and gets less. People no longer dream of prosperity. People dream of stability, of the passing of tomorrow. There are mothers who skip dinner so their children don't miss anything. For example, they can't afford diapers in the country they come from. And I believe that we in Europe need to provide social housing, so I want to invest in that, provide decent work contracts and provide social services that help people enter a dignified and well-paid labour market. And I'll tell you one more thing: We can't stand in front of the bulldozer. AI. This world doesn't exist to work for seven billionaires in the world. This world exists to please all of us.
