The importance of trans-European transport infrastructure in times of stalling economic growth and major threats to Europe’s security (debate)
Dear President, Dear Commissioner, I am pleased that, at last, not only the colleagues in the Committee on Transport and, in particular, the coordinators, my colleagues, the importance of military mobility is - and is - absolutely important for the European Commission. These dual-purpose transport networks are important. I very much hope that it will also be on the side of the Council. Why finally? I would remind you that in the summer of 2020, when the European Council adopted the multiannual financial framework for this current seven-year period, military mobility will be reduced from the initial six billion euros to zero, and then increased to one and a half billion with the help of the European Commission, which was, of course, blended, as you said, within two years, and in fact there is no money there anymore. And also CEF money has actually ended from this framework with the last tender. Therefore, I very much think that this is an absolutely important issue for us, because other steps do not really work. of the multiannual financial budget this year's The 7-year budget review we did in 2000, well, last year, it did not work, because we did not add anything to military mobility, no euro. The same applies to the medium-term approach of the Cohesion Fund, which was now flexibly created by yesterday's European Commission communication, which also makes it difficult for governments to lend borrowed money to carry out these expensive projects. Do not expect miracles in the field of military mobility. That is why we are blowing our cheeks, fighting for the new multiannual budget, and full support for the Commissioner and the Commission in the CEF and the fight against military mobility.
The next sitting will begin tomorrow, Thursday 13 March 2025 at 12:00. 9.00. The agenda is published and available on the website of the European Parliament.
