The establishment of a tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine (debate)
Madam President, Commissioner, Let us ask ourselves one question: what will peace look like and what will Ukraine’s victory look like in the absence of this special tribunal? And if we have talked about this special tribunal here in Parliament in the majority of the past, it seems that high-ranking officials in western Europe have also just started to support it. Why is this tribunal important for Western societies, Western democracies? Without this tribunal, at the end of the war, in fact, Europe, America and other Western democracies will receive a frozen war and insecurity for the next steps and a failure to provide an international framework for peacekeeping. And the second point is that, in reality, Russia itself needs this special tribunal. This may sound paradoxical, but without this tribunal there will not be an end to the imperial narrative of society, at least in the next generations of Russia. And we will get a frozen situation for Russia's aggressive actions in the future. This is actually also necessary for Russia itself.
