Escalation of violence in the Middle East and the situation in Lebanon (debate)
Madam President, the leadership of the European Union is particularly helpless when it comes to the war in the Middle East. In the Middle East, we see Benjamin Netanyahu doing what he wants, and the United States fulfilling all his whims, and the European Union shining with its absence. Yes, sometimes EU leaders issue a declaration deploring the civilian casualties in Gaza and Lebanon. Except that nowhere in these declarations do they mention that these people died as a result of Israeli strikes because they are afraid of angering Netanyahu. And while they are dying of fear, the Israeli prime minister is doing everything he can to get Iran into the fighting, hoping to destroy the leadership in Tehran. And because he knew he couldn't do it alone, he tried his best to drag the United States into the war. And the current leadership of the European Union is doing nothing to stop this conflict, which could lead to World War III. European leaders have no independent vision of what is happening in the Middle East. They're just following Washington's orders. If they are told from there to be critical of Netanyahu, they will be. Otherwise, they curl up like mice in their holes.
