Presentation of the action plan against cyberbullying (debate)
(IT) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, Commissioners, 'there are laws to combat bullying and cyberbullying, but we need an implementation path that requires efforts and coordination'. To pronounce these words is Ernesto Caffo, president of the SOS Telefono Azzurro Foundation, on the occasion of the Italian Day against Cyberbullying, which took place a few days ago. The phenomenon runs fast and exploits asymmetries between Member States, but it is something that 90% of Europeans consider urgent. Cyberbullying goes beyond fake images, manipulated videos, stolen identities. I deep fake This is one of the most worrying developments in cyber violence. We must act to protect younger users, without innovation becoming a weapon against people's dignity. We need to find ways to make manipulations recognizable. The aim is not to censor, but to coordinate prevention, digital education and cooperation between States, but also to strengthen the role of families, with the development of tools for parental control more effective, and to demand that platforms take responsibility for their impact on children. Some Member States, such as Italy, already have advanced legislation and preventive policies. Let's be inspired, but let's act quickly because the stories of isolated children, humiliated, pushed to silence or worse, do more and more harm and this action plan It's going in the right direction.
