Heat record year 2024 - the need for climate action to fight global warming (debate)
In fact, I think our party is one of the few parties that actually has realistic suggestions on how we should do this. You can't just pump in an incredible amount of money and think that everything will work out. We must have development, innovation, otherwise we have no money to invest in climate work. We have to have energy. We have to have nuclear power. We need to balance innovation, technology development. So we can have an effective climate policy that also benefits our economy. In fact, we are lagging behind when it comes to growth and innovation.
Heat record year 2024 - the need for climate action to fight global warming (debate)
Of course we need to decrease emissions, I said that, of course it's important. But we need to do that by innovation, not where they shut down all the industries and move them to other parts of the world – that's not a solution. Or close the nuclear power. Look what happened in Germany. It will not save the planet or EU. We need to focus on both innovation and competitiveness to be able to have a climate policy. And I think it is important to balance these two to have an effective policy.
Heat record year 2024 - the need for climate action to fight global warming (debate)
Mr President, thank you very much. We are here to debate the 2024 heat record and the need for climate action. I do not question that it is getting warmer or that climate action is needed. However, the EU is not responsible for the largest emissions. So does Communist China, which is also the big winner of our climate policy. My Green, Socialist and Centre Party colleagues in this House do not understand that Europe cannot save the world by dismantling its industry and making life difficult for ordinary people. As a result of your policies, jobs are moving outside Europe, and emissions are not disappearing either – they are only moving to other parts of the world. Instead of stifling our industry, we need to cut down on unnecessary EU bureaucracy and invest in innovation. If we look at history, it is precisely technology development that has contributed the most to emission reductions, and we desperately need a realistic climate policy. The left's anxiety, panic and doomsday prophecies bring my thoughts to the flagellants of the Middle Ages; those who whipped themselves bloody in the streets to get rid of the plague, but in fact became part of the spread of infection.
Commission’s plans to include the revision of the outstanding proposals on animal welfare in its work plan for 2025 (debate)
Madam President, I would like to thank you for your The animal world is a natural part of our society and our Swedish nature. We should be proud that our country has very far-reaching and comprehensive animal welfare legislation. I therefore welcome the debate on the Commission's plans to include a review of the outstanding proposals on animal welfare in its work plan for 2025. Unfortunately, an important proposal is missing from the Commission's review of the rule of law on animal welfare. From Islam-dominated areas such as the Gaza Strip, brutal clips of ritual slaughter such as Eid al-Adha are now being spread. And the cows tortured to death by the Islam mob could have been Swedish. It's time to settle with Islam's barbaric rituals for Swedish cows. Ban the export of live animals to Islamic countries.
Urgent need for EU action to preserve nature and protect biodiversity to avoid the extinction of species (debate)
Mr President, I would like to thank you. Today we are debating the urgent need for EU action to conserve nature and protect biodiversity. That sounds nice. Who doesn't want to conserve nature and biodiversity? But this EU language actually means more power to the EU. Preserving nature – this means that the EU, through the Nature Restoration Act, puts a dead hand over Swedish forest and agricultural land. Protecting biodiversity – this means more micro-management. For example, bans on shooting wolves and cormorants, requirements for expensive salmon staircases, for dams and hydropower, economic losses for landowners and forest owners, and lost jobs in rural areas. The list is long, but my speaking time is short. So let me summarize. This is basically about more supranationality, less freedom for the Member States, quite simply. Sweden can manage its own nature and biodiversity without supranational pointers from bureaucrats and other countries' politicians who know nothing about our local conditions.
The increasing and systematic repression of women in Iran
Mr President, I would like to thank you. The women of Iran once lived with freedom that we take for granted today. The opportunity to dress as you like, study and even demonstrate. Freedom and many legal rights disappeared when the Islamists took power. Jihad became mandatory and women's freedom was restricted. Women's voice is now valued less than men's in legal proceedings. The same Islamism is spreading here as well. Instead of confronting the threat, the left runs the affairs of the oppressors by silencing legitimate criticism with accusations of Islamophobia. We must never bow to the Islamists. Don't wait until it's too late. Don't be naive. Strengthen the fight against Islamist oppression. Stop immigration and Islamism funding and introduce zero tolerance towards honour culture. Defend the freedom that generations of Swedes and Europeans have fought for.
One-minute speeches on matters of political importance
Mr President, I would like to thank you. Let me be clear. There is no climate crisis, but there is a cost crisis. EU elites talk about climate goals while delivering even more laws and regulations that step by step reduce our freedom. Brussels wants to dictate which car we should drive, how we should build our houses and how forest owners should farm their land, all this in the name of the climate. Citizens' concerns about rampant prices are not taken seriously. For you here in Brussels, it seems more important to impress the outside world than to prioritise your own citizens. This has got to stop. The Left will always continue its climate hysteria, and while they try to build on their raison d'être, we must take responsibility. It is time for a climate policy that puts citizens first. Reducing the cost and regulatory burden and promoting innovation. This is how we protect our freedom, our prosperity and also contribute to a more effective climate policy.
UN Climate Change Conference 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan (COP29) (debate)
Mr President, I would like to thank you. Climate conferences like COP 29 are more about goodness signaling than effective climate action. This time they will meet in the oil state of Azerbaijan to focus on how we will finance climate contributions to countries that today are not very poor. Does climate support from Greece solve the climate challenge for Qatar? Does hysteria about the climate emergency and the shutdown of nuclear power help us achieve climate goals? No, the left's placard policy makes us more dependent on fossil fuels. The UN rewards countries such as China, India, while Sweden, which accounts for 0.1% of global emissions, is penalised. We need technology development, we need innovation and we need more nuclear power to reduce emissions. Less panic and more innovation. I and many Swedes wonder what we get for the money? How do we ensure that these billions do not end up in the pockets of corrupt leaders? Before more money is raised, these questions need to be answered.
Closing the EU skills gap: supporting people in the digital and green transitions to ensure inclusive growth and competitiveness in line with the Draghi report (debate)
Mr President, I would like to thank you. The EU wants to close the skills gap and increase competitiveness, according to the Draghi report. But what does that mean? More loan-financed grants that Swedish nurses and construction workers will have to pay and also future generations. Draghi wants to introduce EU taxes and abolish the right of veto. This is a direct threat to Sweden's independence. The EU is also proposed to step up support for the digital and green transitions. It sounds cute, but it will be an expensive deal for Sweden, which is already a world leader. We've already ploughed billions into green prestige projects that don't deliver. Isn't that enough? It is the interests of ordinary citizens that we must protect, not the utopian visions of the EU scheme, which make it difficult to run a business, pay the electricity bill or make ends meet. According to the business newspaper, the Draghi report should scare blows at the EU. I wonder, are you listening to the bourgeois EPP? Are you ready to help us scrap these crazy plans?
Iraq, notably the situation of women’s rights and the recent proposal to amend the Personal Status Law
Madam President, I would like to thank you for your My daughter should not grow up in a Europe of Islamic values. We are now seeing how Iraq is planning legislation that violates women's rights. Even small children, nine years old, can be married off. This is legalized pedophilia. These medieval values are now spreading and normalising in Europe because of naive and anxious politicians who do not dare to protect our way of life, while the political left even allies itself with the Islamists. The former red-green government's information brochure aimed at "you who are married to a child" should never even come to mind. Nor should the EU fund campaigns such as "freedom is in the hijab". These are examples of submission. We must stand up for women's rights, stop importing women's oppression and stop normalizing and legitimizing misogynist Islam. Sharia law is not welcome in Europe.
State of the Energy union (debate)
Mr President, I would like to thank you. The EU is pursuing an energy policy that is directly harmful. This is a self-destructive path, marked by excessive bureaucracy, wrong priorities and a naive ambition for the EU itself to be able to save the global climate. So what is the consequence? We are currently witnessing deindustrialization. The EU must stop looking at renewables as the only solution and stop penalising nuclear power. Look at Germany and its failed energy system. This is a warning example. Sweden has to some extent kept its nuclear power and managed to avoid dependence on Russian gas and prevented the same catastrophe as we are now seeing in Germany, where companies are now fleeing the country. I refuse to let the Swedish people suffer because of the wrong priorities of other countries. Instead of Sweden having to pay for other countries' failed policies, countries like Germany should do their homework and tackle their own energy production. At the same time as we have to pay for the rest of Europe, our pensioners in Sweden freeze in the winter. The Swedish people do not want to pay higher electricity bills for us to supply energy to countries that for ideological reasons have chosen to shut down their nuclear power. This is nothing more than legalised looting that affects ordinary citizens and Swedish companies. If other countries do not take responsibility now for their own energy policy and energy supply, Sweden's patience will run out. What happens if we cut the cable? Then what are you going to do? A common electricity union does not benefit anyone.
One-minute speeches on matters of political importance
Mr President, I would like to thank you. In Sweden and in the EU, tax money is being spent on green projects, which would never be financed by private investors for the simple reason that they are too risky. But when Swedish taxpayers pay the bill, then no risks are too great. Billions have been invested in the Northvolt air castle. This is a company that has suffered major delays, rampant costs and even deaths, and now they are at risk of going bankrupt. Despite billions of investments, it looks like Northvolt will produce more deaths than batteries. It is clear that in pursuit of the sacred green transition, not only our economy but also people's security is at risk. It is now time for us to start looking responsibly at our common tax dollars. The EU must immediately scrutinise all green investments, this is a green bubble.
