Reviewing the ETS system to support European competitiveness (topical debate)
Madam President, I'm sorry. Mr. Commissioner, I'm sorry. The ETS was supposed to be a charge to reduce CO2 emissions2 and mobilising industry in decarbonisation projects, but in practice it has become a climate tax. As a result of the ETS, European industry moves out of the Union, emissions are outside Europe, and Europeans buy the same products with even higher emissions, only from non-European regions. This is how European industry collapses. It must be made clear that radical climate targets are unachievable in any economic way. Economies competing globally with Europe are growing faster and Europe is losing in this race and is getting weaker every year. The ETS system needs to be radically changed, it needs to be suspended. We need a legislative pause, we need to stop the process of green legislation at every stage. However, ETS 2 should be completely phased out before it enters into force. Without industry, we will not build a strong economy in Europe, and the European Commission does not want to understand this.
