A unified EU response to unjustified US trade measures and global trade opportunities for the EU (debate)

Mr. President, Trump's trade war is a symptom of a structural crisis, that of the neoliberal order that has governed global trade since the 1980s. Every crisis is an opportunity, not to go back to before or to imitate Trump in a self-destructive dynamic, but to rethink the model from fairer parameters. That means many things, but – among others – strengthening the democratic sovereignty of our economy, making imports conditional on respect for labour and environmental standards. It also means creating a European digital space of its own, betting on a more balanced multilateralism and conditioning – boosting – public control of strategic economic sectors. In front of the walls that Trump erects, Europe must raise rights. We must not combat US neo-protectionism in the service of local elites with more neoliberalism in the service of global elites. Therefore, another world and another trade are possible and urgent.

Topical debate (Rule 169) - Social Europe: making life affordable, protecting jobs, wages and health for all

Mr President, the international order from which the European Union was born, after the horror of World War II and Auschwitz, is today in crisis. But crises, Commissioner, are half failure, half opportunity. The one in 2008 declined on the right, with cuts, with austerity, and it was a failure. The pandemic crisis declined on the left, with well-being, with rights, and it was an opportunity. An opportunity to have a stronger and more united Europe. Today the dilemma is the same again. Faced with the threat of the United States and Russia, two projects are dueling again. Or the Europe of denial, the Europe that denies climate change, the Europe of save who can, the Europe of massive rearmament, cuts and financial despotism. Or the green Europe, the Europe that defends the public, that contains a promise of hope, a new pact of redistribution so that no one is left behind. Deteriorating situation in Gaza following the non-extension of the ceasefire (debate)

Ceasefire in Gaza - the urgent need to release the hostages, to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to pave the way for a two-state solution (debate)

Mr President, I, unfortunately, do not share the optimism of some of you. It is not a peace agreement or an end to violence. apartheid, ethnic cleansing, occupation. It's not even a permanent ceasefire. It is just a pause in the midst of the hell and barbarism that the Palestinians live. But, without the end of those atrocities, without justice and reparation, without Netanyahu arrested and tried, there will be no peace. Yes, it is true: There's some relief because the guns have been quiet. But we are also very embarrassed, because this could have been signed eight months ago - we would have saved thousands of dead - and we did nothing to make that happen. There is a lot of skepticism, because Netanyahu does not want peace, he just wants to regain some popularity, rearm, buy time and continue with the annexation of the West Bank and the genocide in Gaza, where he has already exterminated almost 10% of the population. Netanyahu will not stop until the United States and Europe stop giving him military, political and financial support and comply with the demands of the Hague court, the United Nations or the most elementary principles of humanity. Until then there will be no peace.

Towards a shared vision for European tourism, its sustainable growth and brand Europe (debate)

And those who do not want to listen to advice, look for a lawyer, as the Popular Party has to do now with the criminal management of the damage, since the Prosecutor's Office is asking to investigate them for crimes.

Toppling of the Syrian regime, its geopolitical implications and the humanitarian situation in the region (debate)

Mr President, in Syria, with the fall of tyranny, that dream has come true that beat in the hearts of those who mobilized in the name of freedom during the Arab Spring, a democratic wave that reached Tunisia, Egypt, Libya ..., but also Europe, Spain, when many of us mobilized in the same year during the 15M. Twenty-four years later, after thousands of displaced people, the dead, tortured or disappeared, a stage of hope, but also of uncertainty, full of risks, is opening up - it is true, Mrs Kallas. What can we do from Europe? First, do not turn your back on Syrian refugees, as proposed by the right or the far right. Secondly, to demand from Islamists respect for the rights of women and minorities, but also from Turkey respect for the Kurdish people. And lastly, stop collaborating with Netanyahu's expansionist delusions: "We must expand to Damascus," they have said in their government, after six hundred bombings and an atrocious plan to fill the south of the country with settlers. The future of Syria must be written by its people. We cannot stifle the dreams of freedom of an entire generation and therefore we must respect their territorial integrity, and that is also our responsibility, because this continent, Europe, is supporting Netanyahu.
