Energy security, independence and supply in the geopolitical context - ensuring market stability and affordable energy for industry and citizens (debate)
Dear Mr President, dear Commissioner! Energy security is not an abstract concept. You can feel it when electricity, heating and grids suddenly fail in Berlin. And you can feel it when prices at petrol stations rise dramatically as a result of the Iran shock. And our companies feel it every day when they ask themselves whether there is reliable and affordable energy in Europe. And too often the answer is ‘no’. And if the answer is "no", then investments go, then jobs go. And the truth is, our system isn't working. We are too dependent on the outside, on fossil fuels, and too fragmented inside. And that is why we now need a genuine European internal energy market, more grids, faster permits, more connections, more renewables and no taboos. We need to review everything that drives prices and obstructs supply, even where regulation creates practical risks. Because if energy does not flow freely through Europe, then the lights go out. And when the lights go out, there's more at stake than electricity. Europe's strength is at stake.
