Situation in Lebanon: implementation of the ceasefire, support peace efforts and humanitarian access (debate)
Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, the Lebanese Government is finally engaged in reforms and disarmament of Hezbollah. But the Lebanese people have been subjected to attacks by Israel for years: In recent weeks alone, the Israeli killing of more than 2,000 victims, with about 7,000 injured and more than 700,000 displaced. Lebanon is thus condemned once again to be a "non-state", a victim of external conflicts and interests, of Israel's genocidal fury, of international lawlessness and complicity of the United States, of the irrelevance of the European Union. Since 2023, at least 259 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza and Lebanon, many of them directly targeted by the Israeli army. What is the European Union waiting for to distance itself from the criminal policies of Netanyahu and Trump and to suspend all relations with the government of Israel? Time wasted causes more deaths and increases the responsibilities of the European Union. One day, Commissioner, at least in the history books, a second Nuremberg trial will take place. And in the dock there will be Netanyhau and his accomplices and, morally, all those who have closed their eyes, mouths and ears. Madam Commissioner, not now, but for years now it is time to act to stop the criminal fury of the Netanyahu government.
