EU cybersecurity and preparedness in view of advanced AI systems (debate)
Madam President, Madam Executive Vice-President of the Commission! This war is not over, Elon Musk's lawyer said after his €114 billion lawsuit against OpenAI was dismissed. This shows that artificial intelligence is no longer just about technology and economic interests, but much more about power, information security and control. Advanced AI systems detect vulnerabilities in computer systems, scale cyberattacks and threaten critical infrastructure – a real threat to Europe. Therefore, the European Union must become cyber-secure. Europe has been at the forefront of AI development. We still have the ability and know-how and do not need to face AI with fear. This is not because we need to be completely independent of non-transparent, non-European actors in the most advanced AI systems. Nor can we assume that the rule of law also applies in the digital space. Technological innovation must never lead to lawless spaces, let alone replace democratic control. Let's put it now the AI Act; Data protection and cyberresilienceRules consistently around and through.
