Towards a stronger partnership with the EU outermost regions (short presentation)
The implementation of Article 349 of the Treaty should take into account the additional social, demographic, economic and climate challenges faced by the outermost regions. The green and digital transitions are facing greater difficulties in the ORs that need to be overcome, and it is essential to draw up an action plan for these regions, involving national, regional and local authorities and partners. The geographical positioning of these regions requires the promotion of effective territorial cohesion, focusing on maritime and air mobility policies that bring these territories closer together and ensure connectivity, minimising the costs of passenger and freight transport and reducing their environmental impacts. The implementation of the Green Deal is required to include a Blue Deal that protects ocean resources and develops maritime potential, that the CAP takes into account the specificities of farming methods, the safeguarding of biodiversity and the integral and sustainable development of rural areas. Promoting sustainable tourism by supporting pilot projects for green and digital solutions is the best path to economic development. The new generations demand better training opportunities, by integrating the reality of the ORs into Erasmus+, and decent employment, with policies that take account of local economic specificities.
