Speeches
Madam President, I'm sorry. Sexual violence against children is not a topic that can be talked about calmly. Any such act is a devastated childhood, a lifelong trauma, often without the possibility of a full mental recovery. The data is brutal. Experts estimate that millions of photos and recordings involving children circulate on the Internet every day. Each of these files is a drama of a particular child who has been harmed and humiliated. The problem is growing on a global scale. We can no longer pretend that fighting this violence is a task for law enforcement alone. We need the full mobilization of society as a whole. Firstly: prevention and education. It is the responsibility of the Member States of the European Union to introduce sex and digital education based on facts, not myths and taboos. Second: Early warning system. Thirdly: Comprehensive victim support. Fourthly: Laws that are preventive. And fifth: international responsibility. Uniform standards of prosecution and the inevitability of punishment must become the European norm, not the exception. The protection of children from sexual violence does not require further declarations. It requires immediate, bold decisions, including legislative ones. I am sure that in tomorrow's vote, each and every one of us will make this courageous but very necessary decision.
