Condemnation of the terrorist attack against the Hanukkah celebrations in Sydney and solidarity with the victims and their families (debate)
Mr President, the anti-Semitic terrorist attack in Sydney upsets us all. It reminds us of a terrible truth: All over the world, anti-Semitism is killing. When you hear of the evil of the Jews, raise your ears: We are talking about you," said Frantz Fanon, who was only too right, because anti-Semitic hatred, when it progresses, threatens us all. This fight against anti-Semitism must be relentless. It requires determined action and constant vigilance. On behalf of our group, The Left, I want to express here our total solidarity with the families of the victims and with the Jewish community of Sydney – also with a special thought for our young compatriot Dan Elkayam, whom we mourn, and our admiration also for Ahmed al-Ahmed, who saved lives and brought courage to the fraternity.

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the islamist attacks of 13 November 2015 in Paris (debate)
Madam President, today we remember and think of the missing victims, their families, the survivors, all those who still bear the scars, visible or invisible, of that bloody night in Paris. Islamist terrorists, misrepresenting a religion, wanted to impose an ideology of death against who we are. And yet, the French people did not collapse, they did not retreat, they did not divide. In the silence of the days that followed, our people stood together in a grave fraternity, claiming that hatred would not win. Ten years later, the terrorist threat is still there. Our cohesion, attack after attack, is put to the test, and this forces us to do so. This forces us to continue our relentless struggle against terrorism, to also continue to reject all the poisons of hatred, stigma and division. Ladies and gentlemen, our answer in Europe is the law. Our answer is democracy. Our answer is freedom.

Renewing the EU-Africa Partnership: building common priorities ahead of the Angola Summit (debate)
Thank you very much, Commissioner. Allow me a word of conclusion for this debate. You have insisted on the parliamentary dimension of this cooperation, and I want to tell you that the European Parliament has decided to have an office in Addis Ababa, as close as possible to the African Union. This is extremely important, and we will have the opportunity here in this plenary to hear from the African Union authorities. In conclusion, pursuant to Rule 136(2) of the Rules of Procedure, I have received eight motions for resolutions. The debate is now closed. The vote will take place on Thursday, 23 October 2025.
