Situation of women and girls in Afghanistan following the Taliban's adoption of the Criminal Procedure Code for Courts
(IT) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, women who have been violated, gagged, erased at the mere thought of freedom: This is the fate that the Taliban imposes on Afghan women, who died under the rubble – under the rubble of that earthquake in August – because they could not be touched by men. Today we want to condemn him, but in Europe, in the end, what are we doing? What is happening in Europe? Where also, reality of fanatical imams, who in abusive mosques sow the germ of Islamic radicalism, which wants to transform our democracy into a theocracy as in Afghanistan. Religious fanaticism and political Islam, unfortunately, are already inside our home and violate the most basic human rights: child brides, polygamy, infibulation, submission. If we want to save freedoms, we need to be honest and clear. And this European Union should speak less and act more.
