Addressing EU demographic challenges: towards the implementation of the 2023 Demography Toolbox (debate)
Demographic change in the European Union is one of the biggest challenges for all Member States, including Romania, threatening the economic and social balance and competitiveness at European level. To combat demographic decline, the European Union and the Member States must work together to implement sustainable policies that support families, create opportunities for young people and promote the inclusion of older generations. It is essential to promote the access of the younger generation to quality jobs and affordable housing that ensures a decent and stable life for them. We also need to provide real support to parents and children in order to create appropriate living conditions for them. It is vital that women can find a healthy work-life balance and that children receive quality care. In addition, we need to develop flexible programmes for older people who want to remain active in the labour market beyond retirement age. Only by investing in education, quality jobs, access to affordable housing and efficient social services can we build a balanced and resilient society. Europe's demographic future depends on our ability to give every citizen the chance to contribute and live in a prosperous community.
