High time to deliver on the Single Market, providing certainty and predictability for EU businesses and quality jobs (continuation of debate)
Madam President, colleagues, if the single market in the European Union requires the same status for all European firms in every Member State, I also require the same for employees. Trade unions in the banking sector in Slovakia face ignorance and rejection from the banking association, which refuses to conduct sectoral collective bargaining. Die Erste and Reiffeisen in Austria, INTESA and UniCredit in Italy and KBC in Belgium will not even allow themselves to think secretly about refusing to negotiate collective agreements. They will not allow draft collective agreements to be thrown into the trash without any reaction. But their subsidiary banks in Slovakia have been doing this for several years. They ignore our trade union and some even prevent the establishment of trade unions. They simply make Slovak employees in the second category, humiliating them in a way that would be unprecedented in Austria, Italy or Belgium. Therefore, if you are talking about strengthening the European single market, I call for equal rights and equal status for employees, and not just for corporations.
