Political repression and humanitarian situation in Cuba (debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, the hostility of the United States against the Cuban people to impose its capitalist model had never reached such a level of cruelty: In addition to the 1962 embargo, which cost more than $170 billion in damage, there is now an oil blockade that is suffocating the entire country. Paralyzed hospitals, more than 100,000 surgical operations on hold, an infant mortality rate that has skyrocketed by 148%, missing transport and drinking water, and schools closing. These are not statistics, they are programmed deaths. If the US really cared about human rights, it would immediately lift the embargo. The main obstacle to the well-being of the Cuban people today is precisely this criminal blockade. What is at stake today goes far beyond the ideological face-to-face between Washington and Havana. Cuba is on the verge of a major humanitarian and health disruption, while Trump is implementing his neo-colonial imperialist ambitions throughout the region with impunity. The United States and its allies must understand one fundamental thing: Cuba's destiny belongs exclusively to its people. When are you going to act?
