Situation of women and girls in Afghanistan following the Taliban's adoption of the Criminal Procedure Code for Courts
Mr President, since the allies left Afghanistan, nobody cares anymore. Roughly at the same time, the Taliban started systematically erasing women from society and public life. But we are deaf and blind. Afghan women are the only women in the world being banned from secondary education. They cannot study in high school. They cannot study at university. They cannot become doctors. They cannot laugh. They cannot sing. They cannot even hear the voices of other women in public. They are not allowed to go to parks. They are not allowed to see doctor alone. They cannot be ministers. They cannot be president. They cannot be members of parliament. The only thing they are allowed to do is to give birth to children; to serve a regime that treats them as property. This is slavery. Nothing more, nothing less. So it's up to us to be their voices, to be the voices of invisible Afghan women. To tell their stories, to tell the world what is happening since they cannot, and to create pressure on the international community to start to care.
