Urgent measures to strengthen the competitiveness and safeguard quality jobs in the EU’s automotive sector (debate)
Madam President, Commissioner, the automotive sector is vital for Galiza, for my country, where there are thousands of direct and indirect jobs - as you know - in the sector and, moreover, where we are demanding an industrial plan that cannot be a blank cheque to give subsidies to the automotive industry while jobs are being destroyed and precarious. It pays to relocate, as we have seen in recent years, to lose jobs. It cannot be, Commissioner, that vehicles made in Europe are treated in the same way as vehicles made outside Europe. It cannot be that the crisis is still being paid by the workers. If there is unfair competition, Europe must act: manufacturing in Europe, creating jobs with decent wages, because the sector has been given a lot of support, but the transition, although it has to be fair, has to be also for people, for local economies. That's why I ask him: More help for who? For multinationals in the automotive sector or to create decent and quality jobs?
