Connecting Europe Facility - Streamlining measures for the realisation of the TEN-T - Railway safety and signalling: Assessing the state of play of the ERTMS deployment (debate)
The Connecting Europe Facility plays an important role in the development of energy infrastructure in Europe. At the beginning of the new budgetary cycle, it is timely to initiate three aspects: discuss the results achieved, new tasks and the impact on the Central European region. In view of the results, it can be concluded that the instrument has fulfilled its expectations. The projects contributed to the development of an integrated energy market. The European energy network is thus better prepared to deal with shocks than before. In addition to completing ongoing developments, the programme will also have to fulfil new tasks. Investments should also contribute to the promotion of decarbonisation and renewable energy sources due to climate ambitions. Finally, the instrument has also proven to be an engine for the development of energy infrastructure in Central Europe. The Krk LNG terminal has opened up global natural gas markets for the region. In the new cycle, the Duna InGrid smart electricity grid project will promote the efficient integration of renewable energy sources in Hungary and Slovakia.
