Mr President! Dear colleagues. This challenge is an act of parliamentary self-defence. About 30 members of the Committee on Transport from the Greens, Socialists, Liberalalas and even parts of the European People's Party want to negotiate an instrument of mass surveillance without a plenary debate – past the plenary – directly in trilogue. Under the guise of road safety, mass surveillance of all vehicles in Europe will be introduced silently, with millions of cars, vans, trucks and hundreds of thousands of tractors. This is despite the fact that, according to the German Parliamentary Research Service, technical defects are only responsible for 0.5% of accidents involving personal injury. This is not really about road safety; It is about mass surveillance without cause. Just thinking about it, then deciding without a plenary debate, has no place in a free Europe.
