Screening of foreign investments in the Union (A10-0061/2025 - Raphaël Glucksmann) (vote)
Mr President, Mr Vice-President, ladies and gentlemen, do we want Europe to be a playground for Chinese oligarchs and American tycoons? No, no. So let's vote for the reform of foreign investment screening. After this long work in Parliament, then in trilogue, I would like to warmly thank the shadow rapporteurs for their constructive approach and strong support. With this text, we put an end to the legendary European naiveté. No, China is not building a factory that assembles electric cars in Hungary to create jobs in Europe. It does this to bypass our trade defenses, to ratiboize our own productions and ensure its domination over a strategic sector. Some foreign investment is aimed at weakening and enslaving us. With this text, we protect our markets from foreign predators who seize our ports, our airports, our communications networks. With this text, Member States will now be required to monitor strategic investments and we have taken from the Council a list of sectors that it initially considered unacceptable. The mechanism we are putting in place requires each State to be accountable to the others. Because a loophole in a single Member State can endanger our production across the continent. This is a step forward, but the fight to defend European productions must continue with the industrial accelerator. So, ladies and gentlemen, let us adopt this text by a large majority and continue to fight to build this sovereign and independent European power which will be the only one that will allow us all to live free.
