Need for an urgent EU action plan to ensure food security inside and outside the EU in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (debate)
Mr President, I agree with the resolution and call on Parliament to support the EPP Group's amendments. That is what I am asking the Commissioner. No more good farmland for nature! The Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies undermine food production. We hear that everywhere. They need to be put in the fridge quickly. The objectives need to be reconsidered. It's time to focus on innovation: That's Europe, isn't it? To fully allow green fertilizer substitutes from processed animal manure. I have been waiting for that for 35 years. Do you call on Commissioner Timmermans to realize this once? This is necessary to reduce our independence from CO2-intensive and expensive chemical fertilizers and to use biogas as an alternative energy source. That's very important. It is time to increase food production in our European countries. We must now support our farmers, gardeners and fishermen to achieve this. Finally, Europe must do everything in its power to save the current seed and propagation season in Ukraine, as the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture has asked us to do. Europe is peace, enough food, but also innovation. Let's get to work.
