Fighting disinformation and dissemination of illegal content in the context of the Digital Services Act and in times of conflict (debate)
To date, the fight against disinformation is a very important task of the Union, as the spread of fake news and disinformation in the media and social networks is so high that there are reversals in the socio-political environments in some Member States. As an example, I can give Bulgaria from three years ago, when on social networks Bulgarian citizens were overwhelmed by fake news that COVID-19 vaccines did not help against the virus, but on the contrary caused the death of those who had been vaccinated. A more recent example: after Russia attacked Ukraine, the Kremlin activated its media and internet channels to spread false information about the situation on the frontline and the reasons for the start of the war itself, thus creating a disinformation bubble into which not a small part of the users of the main social networks entered. I urge stronger measures against disinformation to show the European Union that it is not a silent letter on this very important issue for the citizens of the Member States.
