Combating violence against women and domestic violence (debate)
Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, I must say with great suffering that I will not vote for this directive because, without a word of mouth, I consider it a huge, gigantic missed opportunity. Once again a downward mediation, done once again on the body of women. A text has been emptied, an important text, a forward-looking, innovative text, which Parliament and the Commission had approved and has been emptied because of the short-sightedness, the arrogance that has been recalled here by governments. But I ask you and I wonder how we will explain to the women out here that a directive has been passed that does not contemplate that without consent it is rape. We have tabled an amendment with colleagues from different political groups to try to reopen the negotiations and include Article 5 once again. I ask you, I wonder with what eyes you, we will look at the women of tomorrow, asking them to denounce whether in this text the reasons of patriarchal culture are stronger than those of feminism. And then I will not vote for this text, because the only answer I can give is to say forcefully and clearly "not in my name".
