The attack against citizens in Modena: protecting public spaces and preventing violence in the EU (debate)
Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, a few days ago, in a quiet Italian city, an Italian of Moroccan origin decided that he wanted to hit, without warning, a number of his compatriots, accelerated with the car, hit them, threw them in the air, and then ran away. This person was stopped, despite being armed with a knife, by an Italian and two other Egyptians, who disarmed her, preventing her from hitting other people. A mature country tries to reason with its head, not its belly. If we reasoned with our belly, of course we would immediately cry out to his expulsion, to the loss of any right of Italian citizenship. And we know that, for an Italian, the loss of citizenship is not possible, except in the presence of a judgment that has the force of res judicata for the commission of certain crimes, but this is not the theme. The theme is that a mature country understands that signals must be given and the signal is to give citizenship to the Egyptians who stopped it, who rescued it, demonstrating, that is, that those who are able to come to Italy, to integrate and behave as most people living in this country behave then are rewarded. The reception is the first sign that can be given to those who come to Italy. Minister Tajani proposed the medal of civil value for the Italian who threw himself into the fray and disarmed this person. This is also a great sign, because, you see, the hero is a man like the others, but he decides to do something that goes beyond his own person. There are so many hidden heroes in our country, so many people doing their jobs allowing others to be happy. Here, we take the positivity from what happened, giving our country a signal of maturity.
