High time to deliver on the Single Market, providing certainty and predictability for EU businesses and quality jobs (continuation of debate)
Madam President, two weeks ago, Romania unfortunately had bad news: the highest price for electricity in terms of purchasing power, two to three times higher than in other countries in Europe. And this for a simple reason: because the European electricity market is fragmented, it does not work. We are decoupled and cannot benefit from cheap energy that is, for example, produced in Germany, because Austria and Hungary refuse to make an interconnector that allows this transfer of energy. But since when? It's been 10 years. And this shows why we need to take some very tough measures. Because if someone is wrong and does not want to do their job, even two important Member States, the price does not have to be paid by another Member State, by Romanians, who had to give up maybe medicines, food, to be able to pay their bill. And importantly, Mr Séjourné, you are Vice-President of the European Commission. Four months ago, there were 459 cases of deception, unfair and unfair practices on the European Union's electricity market, tens of billions of euros investigated because these practices led to the payment of undeserved bills, by people and companies. For this reason, we need to have an energy exchange in the European Union, for transparency and to be able to verify all these things. And I ask you, Vice-President Séjourné, to take the necessary measures.
