The EU aims to enhance its diplomatic and geopolitical engagement in the Arctic to ensure regional stability and sustainable development. In response to increasing militarization by Russia and China’s growing influence, cooperation with NATO allies will be strengthened to counter hybrid threats. Climate protection and the preservation of fragile ecosystems are central, with a focus on including indigenous communities and their traditional knowledge. The EU seeks to safeguard critical infrastructure like undersea cables and enforce international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Strategic partnerships with Arctic states will secure resource supplies and boost the region’s economic resilience.
