This regulation aims to enhance police cooperation within the EU to combat human smuggling and trafficking. A permanent European Centre for Combating Smuggling will be established at Europol to provide strategic and operational support. Member states are required to designate specialized units and improve information sharing via secure platforms like SIENA. Europol’s mandate is expanded to coordinate cross-border investigations and collaborate with third countries. Data protection and fundamental rights are ensured through strict legal frameworks.
