The EU aims to accelerate the approval of biological control agents to promote sustainable alternatives to chemical pesticides. The goal is to increase the availability of these products while reducing reliance on conventional pesticides without compromising food security. A harmonized legal framework will establish clear definitions and tailored risk assessment methods for biological substances. Streamlined procedures and mutual recognition among member states are intended to speed up market access. In the long term, this should strengthen agricultural competitiveness and support the EU’s environmental objectives.
