Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (debate)
The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Report highlights the key role that sustainability and responsible business practices play in shaping a more prosperous and inclusive society. This upcoming Directive will introduce obligations for EU and non-EU companies operating within the EU as regards actual and potential human rights adverse impacts and adverse environmental impacts in the context of their own operations and those of their subsidiaries and other entities in their value chain. I consider it important because it promotes EU values in the business environment and aims to help prevent violations of fundamental human rights. Corporate sustainability is not only a moral requirement, but also a strategic asset, as companies that prioritise sustainability are more likely to achieve longer-term success and resilience in the current fast-changing world. At the same time, however, it is important to find a balance and not to create excessive administrative or financial burdens for the European business sector.
